I am a certified Doula with DONA and I'm certified with the HypnoBirthing Institute. I have two daughters, both born at home in the late 70's in Vermont. I was a certified ACAH (Association for Childbirth at Home) childbirth educator, and was active in the home births in my area. I moved to Taos, New Mexico, where an OBGYN agreed to trade childbirth classes held in his office, where his teenage clients would take my class for free, and I would be their coach at their births. I attended hospital and natural births at the Taos birthing center. I heard the word "Doula" about two years ago, and it sparked my desire to be back in the world of women who care about women. I discovered the "Hearts and Hands", a wonderful group teaching, encouraging and educating the role of Doula at UCSD Medical Center. From their encouragement and my experience there, I joined DONA and have since attended births with my own clients. I believe, that bringing a child onto this planet is the most awe-inspiring commitment that any one human can share with another. I believe, that the female mind and body, with knowledge and support, can have a most gifted and empowering experience with labor and delivery and the birthing of her child. |
