No one ever knows how their birth will go, but there are many things you can do to help keep your birth closer to your ideal. The heart of this is to be surrounded by a strong support system. A doula has one job: to completely support the mother and help her through her labor and delivery.
Whether you plan to deliver your baby in a hospital, birth center or at home, I am there to support you during this special event. I help you feel empowered by understanding your decisions and do all I can to aid you in achieving the birth you want. I help alleviate the discomfort of labor through massage, acupressure, and body positioning. You have my complete attention throughout labor and delivery. Everyone else is focused on the baby during labor. I am there to focus on you.
I offer 2 pre-natal visits during which I can answer your questions, offer early labor comfort measures and help with your birth plan, if requested. I am there through your labor and delivery, for as long as you feel I’m needed. And I provide 1 post-natal visit where we can go over the birth to help you write your birth story, make any necessary referrals you might need, help you with breastfeeding problems, etc.
As a physical therapist for over 20 years, I have the medical background and experience to make me very comfortable with the body and the knowledge of how to position it in order to provide the most comfort. I have found that being a doula is the most exciting and rewarding work of my life.
